Speaker Announcement: Saeeda Wright — Advocating for Love
To singer, songwriter and vocal coach Saeeda Wright, pulse means the heart or root of a thing –– its lifeline.
“I think of divine source and rhythm,” says the gospel, R&B, jazz and classical artist. “Whenever I am in a conversation about life, love, passion, purpose or God, there is something that stirs on the inside of me. I love to share my testimony and encourage other people.”
The TEDxConcordiaUPortland (now known as TEDxMtHood) community is delighted to hear Saeeda’s message on our stage May 3.
A native Portlander, Saeeda began singing in church at an early age and received a full-ride scholarship to study vocal performance at Clark Atlanta University. She returned to Portland after school, sharing her talent on local stages and employing herself as a vocal coach.
“I believe in God, I believe in love and I believe in people,” Saeeda says. “We need each other. My love and passion is music, but I am called to bless the people any way I can.”
Saeeda believes we should slow down to breathe and appreciate –– even our breath itself. “Someone is unable to breathe right now because they have passed on,” Saeeda says. “Appreciation puts many things into perspective.”
Strongly influenced by contemporary jazz singer Rachelle Ferrell, Saeeda says she always aspire to enjoy herself on stage. Ferrell’s joy and emotion on stage, as well as her interviews about taking care of herself and being as creative as possible, inspire Saeeda.
“I am on a journey to cleanse myself so I can maximize my instrument –– me,” Saeeda says.
She also believes in the Dr. Wayne Dyer philosophy, “Change your thoughts, change your life.”
If Saeeda could harness the pulse and energy of 700 TEDxConcordiaUPortland (now known as TEDxMtHood) attendees, she would want them to search their hearts, open their spirits and become the changes they wish to see.
